In the past, Republicans and Democrats have raided transportation funding to spend infrastructure dollars on other priorities. But over the last ten years, California’s voters have largely put a stop to that practice by supporting several transportation ballot measures that creates constitutional lock boxes on the funds.
That’s why the Alliance advocated for Proposition 69 (2018), which prevents politicians from diverting SB1 gas tax revenue for anything other than fixing and modernizing California’s aging transportation system. Over 80 percent of Californians supported Prop 69, and now every city, county and transportation agency across the state has dedicated funds to repair local roads and improve public transportation.
