In 2017 the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1, a historic transportation package that raised over $50 billion for transportation repairs over the next 10 years. However, SB 1 focused on providing state funding to preserve our existing network and reduce the maintenance backlog, not build for our future.
California requires smarter solutions to grow our transportation network and meet the challenges of the 21st century. Maintaining our existing road network and repairing our bridges and overpasses while also building new transit lines and expanding transportation options will be required to meet the needs of California’s future. Transportation is the key to strong economy and SB 1 will support over 68,000 jobs annually.
Over 80% of the state’s population lives in a Self-Help County where voters have approved a transportation sales tax to build new local projects. These projects are the most important path toward transforming local transportation options and supporting local economies.
